This weekend, I received a comment on a recent post about professional headshots and it brought up an ongoing misconception that many actors have:
‘Even lighting, shallow depth of field, and a 10 minute photoshop touchup are not hard to explain… Guys like you are greedy @$$holes that spread disinformation.’
You’ve done your research, figured out your type, hired the best head shot photographer in New York City, and now it’s time for your headshot session… the session date is looming.
Now how do you look your best for your headshot?
A New York headshot photographer charges anywhere from $500-$1,500 (at least the well known, agent and casting director recommended photographers). Under ordinary circumstances, that’s a sizable investment for any actor or actress… now tack onto the equation a crapped-out economy and you’re looking at a recipe for stacks and stacks of mediocre or just plain bad headshots.
It’s no secret that our nation is in a financial crisis, and between the already plunging economy, the effects of the Writer’s Guild strike, and the possibilities of a SAG strike, many actors and actresses in need of the best headshots money can buy, instead find themselves buying the cheapest head shot they can find. This is not a good thing!
